Sandpoint Idaho Visitor Guide
Have a very merry hometown Christmas

If you're looking for small-town Christmas charm, check out the festive events downtown during "Holidays in Sandpoint." Hop on a free Horse-Drawn Trolley from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 12 and Dec. 19. Plus there is a Men's Shopping Night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 11. And bring everyone along for shopping specials and events on Family Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 12.

Up at Schweitzer, the holiday lights are on and, of course, there's plenty of snow to provide that festive white Christmas cheer! And Santa's Traditional Schweitzer Visit takes place on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, where he'll be passing out treats to skiers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. before leading a Balloon Parade at 2 p.m. from the top of Basin Express chairlift down to the lodge. Then follow him and Mrs. Claus inside for hot cocoa and last-minute wishes from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Ho ho ho!!!

Cheers to Sandpoint visitors!

Visitors to Sandpoint are in for a nice surprise when they visit the Pend d'Oreille Winery at 220 Cedar St. in downtown Sandpoint.

"People don't expect to find an award-winning winery in Sandpoint," said owner Steve Meyer. "They are pleasantly surprised."

Meyer and his wife Julie started up the winery in 1995, and Pend d'Oreille Winery is now the third-largest winery in Idaho.

"When people visit Sandpoint, Pend d'Oreille Winery is a great place to discover the great flavors of Northwest wine that we produce right at the winery," Meyer said. "It's also a place where you can get the feel of Sandpoint. It's a gathering spot for locals and visitors alike."

The winery offers wine tastings, live music and tours, and also offers a great lifestyle giftshop that impresses locals and visitors alike. There are many other special events that take place throughout the year, like the Harvest Party every September. Visit their Web site at POWine.com to learn more.

Schweitzer's up and running

Lift lines. Those two little words can make or break a great ski day. Schweitzer Ski Resort is an awesome mountain for skiers looking to break away from the crowds, and still enjoy world-class terrain.

Great events going on at Schweitzer this month include A Day for Heather, a local benefit for the Community Cancer Services. All passes are $10 on Dec. 11, and all proceeds will be donated to the CCS.
